Position Description:
Under the direction of the paving foreman the asphalt screed operator is responsible for controlling material taken into the paver and the depths of the material placed by the paver. Manipulates hand controls to dictate the movements of the screed, which spreads and levels asphalt on subgrade. Perform normal maintenance such as oil, grease, service and make normal operating adjustments to the equipment. May perform other related duties, such as adding or removing screed extensions, installing or removing automatic devices or other accessories associated with the machine.
Responsibilities:
- Match all paver joints and maintain consistent joints.
- Keep screed adjusted properly and maintain mat quality.
- Assist in handwork as needed.
- Sets up screed electronics in conjunction with Paver Operator.
- Assure proper storage and maintenance of all screed equipment.
- Job site clean-up.
Typical Working Conditions:
- Field Environment - Work is exposed to outdoor conditions, noise and heat.
- Ability to work long days and Saturdays as required.
Attendance and Reliability:
- Reporting to work on time and not leaving early unless authorized.
- Always providing proper notification and advance notice of absence.
- Not abusing or taking advantage of personal days off.
- Performing such other duties as may be required.

Physical Demands:
Physical demands of the position includes: sitting, standing, walking, climbing, low level work, reaching, bending, trunk movements, lifting minimum of 45 lbs., carrying, pushing/pulling, dexterity of hands and fingers, seeing, hearing and talking.
